"Employers recognize that hiring military veterans is not only the right thing to do, but also a powerful way to tap into an underutilized workforce and unlock significant workforce development benefits."
The Veterans Workforce Alliance (VWA) is a newly formed non-profit organization built to close employment gaps for veterans, transitioning service members, and military families, with a focus on those from disinvested communities in California’s Capital Region. Our mission is to connect employers with the resources needed to successfully hire and retain veterans and transitioning military families. With their wide range of experience, VWA can create clear, equitable pathways into high-quality jobs across priority industry sectors.
The group recognized that California is home to approximately 1.8 million veterans, the largest population in the nation. Many veterans face obstacles transitioning into civilian employment, particularly in sectors such as technology, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare. Veterans in our region report low awareness of benefit programs, limited access to industry-aligned training, and confusion navigating employment systems fragmented across agencies and jurisdictions.
VWA was created in response to this challenge by a diverse collaborative that includes public agencies, employers, higher education institutions, and community-based organizations. Our formation represents a unique alignment of veteran advocates, regional economic leaders, and nonprofit partners who share a vision for streamlining workforce systems and scaling what works. Together, we aim to unify fragmented services, fill gaps with innovative tools, and increase equitable access to quality jobs.
Upon the decision to incorporate as a non-profit, VWA developed foundational governance structures and assembled a highly experienced board. Our leadership team brings decades of expertise in veteran services, public policy, employment readiness, and non-profit management. Many board members are veterans who have firsthand experience with transition challenges and bring valuable insights into creating new and effective solutions.
What distinguishes VWA is its ability to bridge the gap between employer needs and veteran lived experiences. Our vision is not theoretical or words on the wall - it represents what we will achieve through our dedication and commitment to connecting heroes with careers!
"For a non-profit working to bridge the gap between veterans and workplaces, establishing clear goals is vital to stay focused, drive measurable impact, and ensure lasting success in connecting veterans with meaningful careers."
